LAHORE: Former prime minister and Pakistan People’s Party (PPP) leader Yousaf Raza Gilani clearly shared his party’s policies on Panama Papers and issues being faced by the parliament, a private TV channel reported.
In an interview to a private TV channel, he said that PPP would “not fly solo” on the issue of Panama Papers and that he stands by the party’s (PPP’s) decision and would work with joint opposition on the issue.
He further said that justice means different things to him and to Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif. Answering a question, he said that PPP was held accountable even in its own tenure. He said that when he was being tried by the court, he was punished first and the issue went to PAC afterwards.
Talking about differences in different political parties, he said that the parliament became weaker due to the discontent between the parties. He said that instead of blaming each other for the issues faced by Pakistan, the focus on the political parties should be on solving those issues.
He said that the security operations against the militants were successful during the tenure of PPP. On the issue of military takeover, he said that Pakistan cannot tolerate a military coup now. About PPP Chairman Bilawal Bhutto, he said that the entire party leadership was with the young leader and had been with him since day one.
He talked about the need for democracy and said that Zulfikar Ali Bhutto gave Pakistan a constitution and Benazir Bhutto restored it. He also said that even today people can relate to PPP and they support it.
