ISLAMABAD: Irregularities, corruption, nepotism and mismanagement continues to engulf the Pakistan Civil Aviation Authority (CAA). Many officers and employees found guilty for possessing fake degrees still hold the same postings they did before being ousted.
The authority, which is responsible for operating all airports including major international airports, has been run by top level officials who possess fake degrees. The corruption and irregularities was revealed by departmental sources and applications sent by honest CAA employees to the PM Secretariat which disclosed that three officers have been appointed on posts of Deputy Director General, setting all rules and regulations aside.
They further stated that to protect corrupt officers in different departments of the authority, Director HR department Sameer Saeed has been awarded three additional charges in finance department. To record their protest over this offense, the chief finance officer was on leave for the last three months. This situation is a question mark over how financial matters are being handled in the authority.
The behavior of CAA Director General Air-Martial (R) Asim Suleman, who is the brother of Punjab Home Secretary Azam Suleman, is very rude with his staff. Illegal promotion of three eyed officers appointed as Deputy Director General in the authority is a big question mark on the credibility of such key national institutes. Syed Amir Mehboob Shah, who was promoted to three posts of Deputy Director General, is allegedly involved in a mega corruption and has been facing an investigation by NAB.
Sohail Chohan and Nadeem Pasha have also been promoted to posts of Deputy Director General illegally and there is speculation in the authority that after their appointment, extortion and other crimes are being reported on airports.
Sameer Saeed was given additional charges in the finance department, destroying the authority by misstatement, irregularities and misuse of power. Sameer Saeed, Amir Mehboob Shah and other senior officials, who allegedly hold fake degrees, have made large assets and huge bank balance in short period of time. To know his view over the issue, Secretary CAA Irfan Elahi was contacted several times but he declined to comment.
