The Provincial Disaster Management Authority (PDMA) has released a detailed report highlighting the tragic human and material losses caused by continuous rains and floods in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa. The report confirmed that 406 people have lost their lives, including 131 men, 167 women, and 108 children, while another 245 individuals sustained serious injuries in different districts. This large-scale devastation has created a dire situation for families who are struggling to survive in the rain-affected areas.
Moreover, the report revealed alarming damage to infrastructure, as 2,810 houses were affected by the disaster. Among these, 674 houses were completely destroyed, leaving families homeless, while 2,136 houses suffered partial damage. The destruction of homes has forced hundreds of families to seek temporary shelter, further increasing their vulnerability in harsh weather conditions. Transitional arrangements are being made to provide relief, but the demand continues to rise.
In addition to the massive human loss, rains also disrupted normal life in several districts, including Swat, Buner, Bajaur, Mansehra, Shangla, Lower Dir, Battagram, Dera Ismail Khan, and Swabi. These areas faced road blockages, infrastructure collapse, and damage to local facilities, severely restricting access to essential services. Consequently, people are finding it difficult to reach medical care, food supplies, and safe shelter. The disaster has shaken the entire province with its widespread impact.
Meanwhile, the PDMA has directed district administrations to expedite relief and rescue operations on an urgent basis. Rescue teams are working tirelessly to save lives, provide food, and restore road connectivity to the affected regions. Furthermore, efforts are being made to reopen routes leading to tourist destinations, ensuring safe travel for visitors and residents. Despite these ongoing operations, the severity of the destruction continues to challenge authorities in their response.
At the same time, officials have emphasized the importance of public safety by urging citizens to remain cautious and avoid unnecessary travel during rainfall. The authority has also reminded people to stay updated on weather conditions and immediately contact the helpline 1700 in case of emergencies. With continuous coordination between departments, the PDMA is closely monitoring the situation and striving to minimize further risks. However, the province still faces an uphill battle to recover from the devastation.
