PESHAWAR: Umma Welfare Trust Pakistan (UWTP) has started distributing Ramadan packages among orphans, widows, the poor and disabled persons in Pakistan and Afghanistan while Eid gifts will also be distributed.
A total of 74,230 Ramadan food packages will be distributed among the poor and orphans across Pakistan and Afghanistan at an estimated Rs 360million and 20,000 Eid gifts will also be distributed among the poor and needy at a cost of Rs 26.8millions, while 850 students of the Ummah Childrens Academy and Ummah College of Technology were bestowed with the food packages and Eid gifts, here at UWTP head office District Nowshera on Monday.
Country Director UWTP, Sahibzada Syed Imran while talking to the media stated that the Trust had been distributing food items and eid gifts for ten years and thousands of orphans, destitute and widows from both Pakistan and Afghanistan have been bestowed with the Trust’s charities. However, he added that 39,630 food packages would be given to Afghans while 34,600 to Pakistanis.
The Trust, he said was not only distributing ramadan packages among the poor and destitute but also imparting education and technical education as well to orphans of various parts of the country free of cost particularly to those children, who belong to tribal regions. “Orphan students after the completion of their FSC get admission in different universities in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa on merit as the Ummah Children Academy is imparting quality education to these children”, he claimed.
The students, the director further informed that belonged to almost every party of the country but majority of them were from Waziristan Agency, Districts Nowshera, Swabi and Mardan but the Trust has concentrated on Khyber Agency. He maintained last year, approximately 1,400 orphan students applied for admission but due to limited space in academy, 120 got admissions as UWTP spends from 6,000 to 7,000 rupees per student monthly.
He, therefore, appealed to philanthropists to extend their financial assistances to serve these orphan children and the poor as they truly deserve it. The food items, he informed contains 10 kg rice, 5kg sugar, 5 litre cooking oil and other important food items are including in the Ramadan package.
