ISLAMABAD: A simple but impressive ceremony was held in Wah Cantonment on Monday to pay homage to the Pakistan Ordnance Factory (POF) martyrs on their 9th death anniversary.
On August 21, 2008, 70 POF employees embraced martyrdom and 196 were injured in twin suicide attacks at POF. The day is held every year to pay tribute to the martyrs. Addressing the ceremony as the chief guest, POF Board acting Chairman Muhammad Afzal said, “We salute the pious souls of the POF martyrs who laid down their lives for the motherland and reaffirm the pledge that we will not let their sacrifices go waste.” He added, “The coward acts of terrorists would not lessen our courage and we would continue to perform our duties with courage, dedication and commitment.” He assured the martyrs’ families that effective steps would be taken for their welfare.
Later, the acting chairman laid a floral wreath at Yadgar-e-Shuhada. Earlier, in his welcome address, Deputy Director (Field Admin) Colonel Haseeb Azam said that the POF administration was committed to resolving the problems of the martyrs’ families. A large number of senior civil and military officers and POF employees were present on the occasion.
