MURREE: Prime Minister Shahid Khaqan Abbasi on Thursday said that promoting democratic values in the country and overcoming the challenges was the top priority of the government. The premier was addressing a ceremony on the occasion of 157th Foundation Day at Lawrence College Ghora Gali in Murree. Shahid Khaqan Abbasi said that Pakistan was facing several challenges which need to be overcome. “However, despite challenges, the country is making progress and referred to resolving the energy shortage,” he said.
The PM said that Pakistan was an atomic power, which was achieved through our own resources with the hard work of scientists and engineers. He said Pakistan is fully capable to defence itself. Shahid Khaqan Abbasi said Pakistan was fighting the longest war against terrorism and more than 200,000 jawans were on the front. He said that everyone needed to get inspiration from the sacrifices of the armed forces in the fight against terrorism.
Referring to the services of the Lawrence College, he said its biggest contribution was producing patriotic Pakistanis and good human beings. He congratulated the students who distinguished in curricula and extra curricula activities. The prime minister also shared his memories at the college with the students and the faculty. He announced a grant of Rs 200 million for development of the college. He also asked the management to establish endowment fund for the welfare of the teaching staff for which the government would also provide necessary assistance.
