MALAKAND: Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf Chairman Imran Khan said on Tuesday that his party will put the country’s institutions on the right track by ensuring merit and good governance after winning the next general elections in 2018. Addressing a ceremony at the Malakand University, the PTI chief said, “We have to strengthen state institutions because countries are destroyed by weak institutions.”
While presenting the example of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa police, Imran said that people fear police in Sindh and Punjab, but the crime rate has dropped by 70 percent in KP. “Why those elected for six times in Punjab and Sindh could not improve police department in their provinces,” he asked.
The PTI chief admitted that one year was lost in sit-in and another in Panama leaks. But in two years, KP government has put the institutions on the right path.
“On the basis of this experience, I am confident that we will be able to re-build the national institutions on sound footings after coming into power,” he said.
Imran continued that the PTI will restructure the National Accountability Bureau (NAB) and Federal Board of Revenue (FBR) after coming into power as a country can only progress if supremacy of law is ensured.
The PTI chief said actual democracy had not yet been implemented in Pakistan.
“It does not matter if a prime minister is sent packing … what matters is the system … which should be allowed to work.”
Without naming anyone, Imran said that a prince cannot meet the qualities of a leader. He said those facing corruption cases appear in courts with an extensive protocol of 40 vehicles.
