LAHORE: Chief Justice of Pakistan Saqib Nisar summoned the complete record regarding the arrest, perks and privileges of ex-DG Lahore Development Authority (LDA) Ahad Cheema on Saturday.
The National Accountability Bureau (NAB) had arrested Ahad Cheema on February 21 in Ashiana Housing Scheme corruption case.
During the hearing, the Chief Justice remarked in relation to the protesting bureaucrats that the NAB should not harass anyone and that officials summoned by NAB should appear before the anti-corruption watchdog.
The chief justice asked the Punjab Chief Secretary and DG LDA about Cheema’s whereabouts and current posting, to which it was stated that Cheema presently is in NAB’s custody and holds the post of the Chief Executive Officer at the Quaid-e-Azam Power Plant.
Moreover, the chief justice questioned how a resolution was passed against NAB by the Punjab Assembly, observing that tomorrow a resolution could also be passed against the Supreme Court’s orders.
On February 28, the Punjab Assembly adopted a resolution, condemning the NAB for ‘harassing and humiliating’ government officials and engaging in their character assassination by advertising their arrests in the media before presenting them in courts.
