LAHORE: Pakistan People’s Party (PPP) on Wednesday observed black day by holding a rally from Charing Cross to Nasser Bagh.
Punjab PPP head Qamar Zaman Kaira led the rally along with other office bearers. party workers were carrying banners, placards, party flags and were shouting slogans against anti-democracy elements of the past and present era.
Addressing the rally, Kaira predicted that Nawaz Sharif would not be seen in upcoming general elections.
He said the way PML-N forgot dictator Ziaul Haq, no one would remember Nawaz after some time.
He criticised martial law regime of General Zia, saying that the country’s first democratically-elected Prime Minister Zulfikar Ali Bhutto’s government was ousted by Zia 40 years ago and introduced terrorism, Kalashnikov culture and drugs in the country which crushed the hopes and aspirations of the nation. He said the military dictatorship in Pakistan was the cause of every evil in the country that still continues to haunt democratic and progressive people.
He said that despite facing worst victimization and dictatorial state terrorism, PPP workers remained steadfast and continued battle bravely for restoration of their democratic rights back.
He said Zia had been made a chapter of past and now it is Nawaz Sharif’s turn. He said that the Sharifs were threatening the Joint Investigation Team (JIT) and judiciary to save their skin but factually, they have lost their case before the nation. He suggested the government should hold inquiry through the state institutions if conspiracy was being hatched against them.
