LAHORE: Supreme Court (SC), on Thursday, granted Sindh government the custody of Ayesha Bawani Government College until 2019.
A SC bench, headed by Justice Azmat Saeed, passed the judgment which has settled the legal tussle between the Sindh government and the Ayesha Bawani Trust.
According to the court’s ruling, Sindh government will keep the custody of one of the country’s oldest colleges until 2019 after which it will be handed over to the trust.
“Both sides would face severe consequences if they fail to abide by the court’s orders,” Justice Azmat Saeed remarked.
During the proceedings, Sindh government also handed a cheque of Rs 8.5 million to the Ayesha Bawani Trust administration.
Last month the Ayesha Bawani College was sealed following a local court’s order which was later dismissed by the Sindh High Court (SHC).
The matter was referred to the SC after the SHC dismissed the contempt of court pleas of the Sindh government and the Ayesha Bawani trust against each other.
However, today’s ruling of SC allowed the trust to register the college under a new name but restrained them from admitting more students until they are handed over the college in 2019.
