ISLAMABAD: Senate Chairman Raza Rabbani has said that parliamentary supremacy is must as democracy and democratic institutions are still not stable in the country.
“We requires more joint efforts and struggle from the journalists, politicians and people from all walk of life for the stability of democratic system,” Rabani said at a gathering here at the National Press Club.
He said that strong democratic institutions were essential for the democratic system and to protect the political and constitutional right of the people.
“We are committed to protect the democracy and would strengthen the democratic institutions and common people of Pakistan, including journalist, politicians, lawyers and farmer,” the Senate chairman said.
He said that a dictator (Pervez Musharraf) abrogated the constitution and destabilised the democracy but after huge offense against the system, he was exempted and was allowed to go abroad abroad without facing the courts.
Rabbani said a strong federation was possible only through strong democracy and democratic institutions. He hoped that people of the country were informed and educated about their basic rights.
He hailed the journalists’ struggle against the dictatorial regimes and said the journalists now again need unity to protect the freedom of speech and expression in order to protect the basis constitutional rights of the people.
